After taking your comment into consideration, I think I am going to broaden my research topic into a more general question. I would like to write about the affects of social life on a student and whether it helps them or harms them throughout their college life as well as after graduating. This will allow me talk about the affects of partying, drinking, going out, relationships and other aspects of social which can include the greek life, which is what I originally wanted to talk about. I got this idea after reading the excerpt The Influence of Fraternity and Sorority Involvement by Biddix, Matney, and Norman. Because in their piece, although their main focus is on greek life, they gave me the idea of looking at each aspect of it which is how I decided I wanted to do it on social life as a whole. Because there are many ways a student can look at having a social life and I want to make sure I talk about all of those aspects and it affects them both in college and post graduation.

To get to this decision, I read the article by Biddix, Matney, and Norman, but I also did more research into other articles. These included The Impact of Students' Academic and Social Relationships on College Student Persistence, which talks about the connection between relationships and the active pursuit of post-secondary institutions ( http://digitalcommons.unl.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1108&context=cehsedaddiss ). Another article, Social Networks: Academic and Social Impact on College Students, brings up the acknowledgment of social networks, which to some might be tied in very strongly with their social life, and how they affect college students ( http://www.asee.org/documents/zones/zone1/2014/Student/PDFs/185.pdf ). So, after gaining some insight, I would like to do my research paper on the effects that social life, wether it be through organizations, relationships, or social networks. The main debate seems to be whether it helps the students become successful or if it hinders them from reaching their full potential.

  1. Just recognize that The Influence of Fraternity and Sorority Involvement by Biddix, Matney, and Norman is a bibliography and research support, and not so much a book to cite -- it is a book to find academic and scholarly research..
